Fenwick Island State Park — Sunny, 64°F

Well, well, well. Look who decided to show up in January wearing a sundress. Today at Fenwick Island State Park, we’re looking at a high of 64°F under sunny skies, starting from a chilly 48°F at dawn. The wind begins at a laughable 0 mph and actually stays calm through early morning—proof that even Delaware weather can occasionally pretend to be civilized.

Paddling Window: 7AM-7PM

Let’s break down this meteorological miracle hour by hour. At 7am, you’re staring down 48°F with dead calm winds at 0 mph—perfect for early birds who enjoy questioning their life choices in the pre-dawn chill. By 9am, temps climb to a more reasonable 55°F with gentle 5 mph southwest winds. The sweet spot? That magical stretch from 11am to 2pm when temps hit 61-64°F with manageable 5-10 mph southerly winds. After 3pm, winds kick up to 15 mph and stay there through evening, so plan accordingly unless you fancy an unintended workout on Little Assawoman Bay.

Through the Day on the Bay

Early morning paddlers (7-9am) will enjoy glassy, calm conditions but need extra layers as temps hover in the upper 40s to mid-50s. The midday hours bring peak warmth—64°F from noon onward—with winds building from 10 mph at noon to 15 mph by 3pm. Late afternoon warriors paddling after 4pm face sustained 15 mph winds, which transforms a leisurely paddle into something resembling an actual workout. Humidity drops from 83% at dawn to a comfortable 60% by midday, so at least you won’t be paddling through soup.
