Jack Lake — Sunny, 63°F

Well, well, well. Look who decided to show up fashionably late to winter—a 63°F high that almost makes you forget you’re in Wisconsin in February. Today’s paddling window ranges from a crisp 42°F at dawn to that balmy 63°F peak, which honestly feels like Mother Nature is pranking us. Don’t get too comfortable though; she’s known to have commitment issues.

Paddling Window: 7AM-7PM Breakdown

Let’s talk reality. At 7am, you’re looking at 42°F with winds at 7 mph from the west—cold enough to remind you that hot coffee exists for a reason. By 9am, temps climb to 51°F with winds picking up to 9 mph WNW. The sweet spot emerges between 1pm and 4pm when we hit our peak of 63°F, though winds will be at their strongest at 13 mph WNW during this window. If you’re planning kayak rental at Jack Lake, aim for that midday-to-afternoon stretch when conditions are warmest. The morning hours? That’s character-building territory.

Through the Day

Early birds at 7am will experience that 42°F chill with relatively gentle 7 mph winds—layer up or regret everything. The temperature progression is actually pleasant: 51°F by 9am, 57°F by 11am, cresting at 63°F from 2pm through 4pm. Wind follows a predictable arc, building from 7 mph at sunrise to 12-13 mph through the midday hours, then mellowing back to 7 mph by 6pm and just 5 mph by 7pm. By evening, temps drop to 56°F with mostly cloudy skies rolling in—a reminder that winter hasn’t actually left the building.

Why Today Works

This is a day for paddlers who appreciate irony and own appropriate layers. With average winds of 10 mph throughout the day, you’ll get some chop on Jack Lake but nothing that’ll humble you. Paddleboard rental in Wisconsin doesn’t get much better than this in February—experienced paddlers should absolutely take advantage of this weather anomaly.
